Do you ever giveaway sessions?
Yes! Once a year, I will do a giveaway as a thank you to all who support Underwood Family Photography in any way. Like many of you, when I hear the words FREE or GIVEAWAY, I am like, either this is too good to be true or will not be worth my time. But I don't ever want the giveaways I do to feel that way. So, early on, I decided I wanted to do an annual giveaway as a thank you to all of you who supported my dream job. I feel fulfillment when I can give back to those who have helped me pursue my calling.
When I first started studying, as many photographers do, I gave out many free sessions to help build the practice and a portfolio. Now I am seasoned going into my seventh year of photographing people and my second year officially running my photography business. I knew it was time to start charging for sessions, and a part of me wished that I could still give free sessions because that is how much I love doing what I do. But, as a business owner, I know that is not possible because running a legal business costs money. On top of the cost of running a business, I have a family of my own to support. It has been a lifelong goal to be an I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T person. (yes, I sang along as I spelled out independent, if you know, you know) I am fortunate and have the best partner who can support our family. In the beginning, it was a struggle as if I was losing my independence, but in reality, we are partners, and I've learned it takes both of us to put in the work.
Thank you for staying with me. By now, I hope you all know this is me, and this is how I talk. I am all over to get to the point, but eventually, I get back on topic.
Throughout the years, I have done soul searching and reflected. Almost every decision I make is with intention. The day I decided to start charging for my work, I also decided to have an annual giveaway. Like I said earlier, the giveaway is a thank you. Thank you for booking your family session with me. Thank you for liking my status on socials. Thank you for telling your friends and family about me. Thank you for taking the time to read my blogs. Thank you for ordering prints through me. Thank you for choosing me.
This year I gave away a free family session. Next year maybe something different. Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you might be the lucky winner next year.
