What is a fresh 48 - Newborn Session?
What is a fresh-48 session? A fresh-48 is a photo session of your baby within the first 48 hours of your baby's life. This session is unique and one of the favorites that I offer. Commonly, the session occurs at the hospital. Our local hospitals in Amarillo, Texas, have the best window lighting. As a primary natural light photographer, their windows are a dream. Mama, no need to worry if you have a home birth. We will have your fresh-48 at home or birth center.
The session is typically quick, within 45 minutes to an hour. But, I want to get in and out because, trust me, I know what it is like when the Doctor and Nurse come in and out to check on you and the little one. So, I will not be in the way. I am here to capture the first sweet moments with you and your baby. Everything happens so fast that it can feel like a blur, so I want you to have images you can return to remember that day. Babies proliferate, and it's hard to believe they were that small once.
I looked through my daughter's hospital folder, which has all the information from what room we were in for her birth weight. Unfortunately, it has only been six years, and I have already forgotten her birth weight and time of birth. I looked at the paper with the information and was blown away. My first thought was, Agh, I had been saying her birth weight wrong. Then I kept going through her paperwork and couldn't believe she had gained two pounds at her first dr visit. Two pounds doesn't seem like much, but to a baby, every ounce counts. After the first week of having her, she had changed so much.
Six years ago, I wish I had known more about "Fresh 48 sessions". As a photographer, you know what I thought I could do myself. So I packed my camera bag along with the hospital bag. But, oh, I was naive.
The first day was a blur after my cesarean. However, I vaguely remember visitors stopping by that day. On the second day, I felt better but overwhelmed. Besides being first-time parents, we had visitors, nurses, and doctors coming in and out of the room, keeping track of the feeding chart and wet and dirty diapers. I was mentally and physically exhausted. I didn't reach for my camera. Afterward, I dreaded the decision not to reach out to a photographer.
Please don't make my mistake. Book a Fresh-48. I will capture those first moments, and you will cherish them forever. Then you can compare them to your newborn session and see how much your baby has grown since she was born.
