How to pick the right location for your family | Amarillo out-door and in-home Family Photographer

As an Amarillo Photographer, Here is some helpful information to help pick the right location for you and your family. My goal is to help you decide which site works for you and your family. I hope you all enjoy this small guide.

First, ask yourself do you prefer outdoor or do you want an in-home session?

In-home Session

Do you want an intimate session in the comfort of your own home? If you answered yes, an in-home session is for you.

(My newborn sessions are done in-home. So, if you book a newborn session, your job is easy because you don't have to choose an outdoor location, an in-home session for you, my friend.)

For a family session, if you answered no because having photographs in your home sounds intimidating, you don't want to worry about cleaning up and the judgment. However, I would honestly reconsider because one, I don't judge, and two, I strive for my session to be chill and fun and intimate, so most of the shots will be close up, and the background will most likely be out of focus. Also, it's my job to help you feel comfortable so you can throw the pressure away.

Outdoor Session

So, you don't prefer an in-home session, and you're interested in an outdoor session. You're at the correct section. Now, this is where you have more options. My go-to outdoor locations are a park (Thompson Park), neighborhood (Woflin Area), and Urban (downtown).

Do you have toddlers who love to run around and explore? Then I recommend the park location. There is plenty of space for the kids to run around, have a good time, and be themselves. There are plenty of sticks and twigs on the ground to entertain the toddlers. We're far enough from the road we don't have to worry about them running into the street. We typically stay in one area at this location. Below are images that were all taken at Thompson Park.

Are you looking for another option for young children? The Wolflin Area neighborhood is another option for families. This area has plenty of trees with gorgeous houses in the background, and we can't forget the historic red brick road. Something to consider is the light traffic in this area. I strongly believe in safety first, so I have to inform you that there is light traffic at this location, so this location might not be ideal for some toddlers who love to dart run. We will be walking around up to a block from where we park at this location. Below are captured at the Wolflin Area.

Are you a parent with older children, pre-teen to young adult? Then I recommend all the above, adding the urban location. Typically this location will have people walking in the background, and there will be heavy traffic. We will stroll up and down Polk Street capturing portraits of you and your family enjoying the downtown area. If you have young children and want to have your family portraits done downtown, there is a perfect spot at the old Courthouse that gives the young ones some space to run around. As you can tell with the downtown location, you will have a variety of backgrounds.

In conclusion, there are many locations to choose from they're all beautiful and can work for your family. One last thing to consider when picking out a place is my images are intimate and close up. As shown below, it's almost impossible to tell where I took these pictures.
