Four Week old in-home Newborn Session In Amarillo, Texas
I am honored to present you all this beautiful soul who happens to be my nephew. He is the youngest of all the cousins. I couldn't wait for the day to photograph him. Unfortunately, due to the mother's request, she wanted to wait a month to do their newborn session. As a photographer, I understand the mother's request entirely. However, as an inpatient Tia (aunt), a month felt like a lifetime!
Most people ask how soon we should book our newborn sessions. Ideally, I'd say anytime, weeks before or after the birth but before the new baby turns six weeks. After six weeks, the baby goes from newborn to infant. What's the difference? A newborn is new, and an infant is old. In all seriousness, I'd say newborns eat, sleep, release and repeat and an infant does all the above with more movement. But, of course, that is just my opinion as a mother of two.
This precious boy was four weeks old at his session. The parents wanted to have a few weeks to bond with their first baby, which is understandable. Everyone is different. I've photographed a baby as young as two weeks. I had our newborn pictures taken at six weeks for my first baby girl, not for any particular reason. I just woke up one morning and thought I hadn't had her photos taken. Thankfully the photographer was able to fit us into her schedule.
Every photographer has a different time frame. My time frame, as I mentioned earlier before six weeks is fitting since my sessions aren't heavily posed. I can work with newborns and infants. I know what it is like to have a newborn and not want to leave the house. That is why my newborn sessions are exclusively in your home. My focus is safety and comfort for you and your baby. In my opinion, the safest place for a new baby is in your home. The parents bonding with the newborn is essential that it is one of the positive things about the newborn session I offer. Of course, if you want to hold your baby the whole session, that is okay. I can still get some incredible portraits of your bundle of joy in your arms.
